March Sight fishing For Redfish

March is always an interesting time of the year for sight fishing in Savannah. The past month has been windier then usual with warm weather, as well as cold fronts mixed in. One day the high can be high 70’s and the next the over night lows can get into the 30’s. This time of year we are almost exclusively targeting Redfish and our trips are very dependent on the weather.

This time of years transition from winter to spring means that the fish are in a transition as well. Redfish can still be found in tight winter schools in shallow water but also are starting to show up on the edges at high tide cruising and looking for a meal. Nice warm days can lead to some spectacular fly fishing as well as light tackle, with hungry fish seperating from schools, eager to feed and satisfy their sped up metabolism this warmer weather brings.

I myself am happy for the longer and warmer days ahead. As the weather warms we can look forward to cobia showing up on the yearly push north as well as the redfish action continuing to heat up. Book a charter today for a fly fishing or light tackle trip in Savannah.
